It's great to see Activision finally embrace downloadable content, as constant updates are crucial if it hopes to compete with Rock Band. That would make it the only piece of GHIII DLC that is forward compatible. Activision also announced that those who downloaded Metallica's "Death Magnetic" album in Guitar Hero III will not have to re-buy the album for the new version of the game. In addition to the various track packs, a pair of Guitar Duels-original compositions by Ted Nugent and Zakk Wylde-will be available as free downloads when the game is released. The tracks will be exclusive to the 360 for two weeks, at which point players on other consoles can access them as well. These songs include "Horse To Water," Man-Sized Wreath," and "Supernatural Superserious," all from the band's latest album.

I remember you could just buy them in packs on the consoles, but nothing like that exists on PC. Xbox 360 owners will also get a timed exclusive track pack during launch, featuring a trio of R.E.M songs. Im playing the notorious no-cd patched crack of Guitar Hero 3 for PC and Im a little confused on how to install DLC songs. The Classic Rock Track Pack features Boston's "Rock and Roll Band" Rick Springfield's "Jessie's Girl" and Foreigner's "Hot Blooded." Blind Melon's "No Rain" will also be available as a single download. In addition to the strong on-disc track list for GH:WT, there will also be DLC available at launch.

With the upcoming GH: World Tour, Activision is hoping to change that by providing a steady stream of downloadable songs. One of the major selling points of Rock Band over Guitar Hero has been the games' extensive library of downloadable content.
